In an era marked by rapid technological advancements and evolving global
challenges, the agricultural sector faces unprecedented pressures that
necessitate innovative approaches to sustain and protect national
interests. Weather anomalies, increasing population demands, and
geopolitical uncertainties are straining the global food supply chain,
making it imperative to develop resilient agricultural practices.
Technological innovation in agriculture, or AgTech, has emerged as a
critical area of focus, offering the potential to enhance food
production efficiency, ensure economic stability, and fortify national
resilience. LANDWERX, an organization dedicated to pioneering multi-use
technologies, recognizes the integral role of AgTech in addressing these
challenges. By seeking breakthrough solutions that not only advance
agricultural productivity but also align with broader national security
imperatives, LANDWERX aims to transform the agricultural landscape and
secure the nation's future against diverse threats.
Technical Challenges
Solving the outlined text presented by the LANDWERX Tech Thursday initiative
involves several technical challenges that span across various domains such as
innovation management, agricultural technology, and collaboration facilitation.
LANDWERX is interested in your Ag Tech ideas, products and services. To help
focus our Tech Thursday sessions we have developed a list of technology area of
interest. The technology focus areas of interest for this quarter’s Tech
Thursdays include but are not limited to:
- Secure
Agricultural Supply Chain Analytics & Resilience Solutions: Technologies
and platforms for real-time tracking, risk assessment, and contingency
planning for U.S. agricultural supply chains—including domestic
production, logistics, critical input identification, and infrastructure
protection. Emphasis on solutions that reduce foreign dependencies,
enhance transparency, and respond to contingency scenarios.
- Biotechnology
& Biosecurity Solutions for Plant and Animal Systems: Tools
and models for advanced threat detection, rapid response, and prophylaxis
against biological threats (pests, diseases, bio-threat agents). Includes
predictive modeling, enforcement of import safety, biosecurity network
innovations, and technologies for defending U.S. led productive
agricultural initiatives.
- Digital
Bioinformatics, Genomics, & Biosensing Platforms: Innovative
bioinformatics systems, multi-omics analytics, field-deployable
biosensors, and biological detection solutions to secure food and
agriculture productivity, enable early warning, and inform both private
sector and defense personnel. Emphasis on protecting research and
supporting U.S. leadership in ag-biotech.
- AI-Driven Edge
Computing, Data Fusion & Secure Decision Support: Edge AI,
distributed analytics, multi-source data fusion, and operational decision
support tools for agricultural intelligence, national security, and
disaster preparedness. Priority to platforms supporting cyber-physical
resilience in critical food and agricultural infrastructure.
- Agri-Intelligence:
Data Analytics, Imagery, & Actionable Insights: Imaging
analysis (remote, drone, satellite), geospatial intelligence, and
AI-driven analytics for surveillance, resource allocation, traceability,
risk mitigation, and cross-sectoral decision-making in agriculture and
food defense.
- Autonomous
& Robotic Agricultural Platforms: Robotic, unmanned, or
autonomous systems that enable resilient, secure, and high-efficiency
agricultural production. Includes innovations in precision robotics, field
surveillance, automated biosecurity enforcement, and data-driven
crop/livestock management.
- Precision
Agriculture & Resilient Agriculture Systems: Cutting-edge
solutions and technologies that drive sustainable productivity,
environmental adaptability (Urban Agricultural aspects, etc.) and input
efficiency—supporting defense, disaster risk reduction, and domestic and
non-traditional geographic food self-sufficiency.
- Cyber-Physical
Security for U.S. Agriculture: Security solutions that address
emerging threats to interconnected/agricultural cyber-physical systems,
including IP protection, data integrity, ransomware/cyberattack
resilience, and supply chain transparency.
